I Just Transfered my Most Important Domain Name from Registrar Godaddy

A couple of months ago, I ran across a post that got me curious. The poster mentioned he had sent out link exchange requests on one of his domains. Obviously, one of the recipients of his request regarded it as spam and reported it to his registrar Godaddy.
This poster claimed Godaddy locked not only the domain in question, but every single domain in his account. His claim was he had to pay $4776 for Godaddy to unlock his domains.

At that time, I had all of my domains registered with Godaddy. I was curious about the post, but there was no way I was going to be alarmed about the accusations of an anonymous poster. But my curiosity had me searching webmaster forums for other reported problems with Godaddy.

What I found left me alarmed. I found a lot of similar reports. Once again, I wanted to give Godaddy the benefit of the doubt. I contacted Godaddy. The President of Goddady responded to one of the forums. I wrote a post about it at this link. Is Godaddy a Good Domain Registrar. Frankly, his response didn't really address the allegations being made and left me feeling unsettled.

I immediately began transferring some of my more important domains from Godaddy to Moniker. I just completed the transfer on the last of my important domains. I feel a lot better now.

I think it is important to say that I have never had a problem with Godaddy. They have always provided me with excellent customer service and I still have some of my less important domain names registered there. They have an excellent control panel and how can you not like Bob Parsons? I'm a sucker for the guy who works his butt off and makes it to the top of his game. This definitely describes Bob Parsons.

But bottom line, I don't trust my valuable domain names to a registrar that appears to be out to police the internet. If that is what you want to do, start your own blacklist. Don't sell domain registrations....

Good Luck,

Brent Crouch
