Cuterank.net – Excellent For Checking Keyword Rank

06 January 2012
cuterank

I haven't done anything SEO related in almost a year. 2011 has been a very busy year for me. I purchased 5 houses last year and spent most of the year refurbishing them. I'll save the details of that for another post.

When I sat back down in my SEO saddle, I noticed the Adsense earnings on some of my best sites had dropped by a few hundred dollars per month. The first thing I thought to do was to check my keyword ranking using Web CEO. However, I hadn't used the Web CEO for over a year and the knowledge base was out of date.

Web CEO offers a lot of functionality that I just don't use. I really only use the keyword rank checker. The problem is the subscription to the knowledge base isn't cheap and it seems like every time I turn around I'm having to pay to update it again. I started looking for another alternative.

Shell Access Tutorial – SSH Access Basic Guide

23 January 2011
shell access

I've owned and managed multiple websites for over a decade now.  I've noticed most of the servers I've used listed "Shell Access" as one of the features.  Up until a few days ago, I didn't even know what Shell access was and have never had a need for it.  Once the need arose to access my server using Shell, I realized just how powerful a tool it is.

Basically Shell gives you access to a command prompt on your server.  It looks and operates much like the MS-Dos windows many of us are familiar with.  There isn't a GUI.  Everything you do must be executed using standard SSH commands.

In the past, I've always accessed my server using a free FTP program like Filezilla.  Most FTP programs will allow you to upload files and change their permissions.  Usually, that is the extent of it.

My need arose to have SSH access when I lost ownership of some files on my server.  When I attempted to delete a directory on one of my server accounts, I kept getting an "access denied" error.  When I called my hosting company, I had lost ownership of the files.  The tech representative was nice enough to walk me through the process of regaining ownership using SSH should this problem occur again.

After playing around with SSH access for a few hours, I really regretted not using this tool sooner.  It is a real time saver.  So if you are interested in using SSH to access your server, here are some basics to get you started.

Blue Screen Of Death – Fix Lockups Blue Screens In Windows

04 April 2010
bsod

My computer has been giving me fits recently! A couple of times a day, I'd be in the middle of something and I'd get the blue screen of death. The error information that appeared on the screen didn't make sense to me and provided no clue as to what was causing the problem. After hours of searching and reading search results on Google, I was getting nowhere.

I was so desperate, I started downloading and trying different software programs that promised to fix the problem. Not a single one of them worked until I found BlueScreenView.

Split Testing Headlines Leads To More Than 122% Increase In Conversion

07 March 2010

It's pretty amazing what difference split testing a few words can make. I doubled my conversions!

stats

I took six months off after selling my internet based physical product business in July of 2009. In January of 2010, I started taking inventory of the sites I still owned in an attempt to gather ideas for a new internet based business. One particular site stood out in my mind.

I sell a $30 ebook on this site. I've sold this product for over 5 years and haven't really put a lot of work into it. I don't want to give too many details since I am disclosing the stats below, but I did want to give you an idea of the power of split testing different page elements.
