FreshDrop.net - Buy Yourself a PR5 Domain for $5

11 May 2008

I’ve always been interested in expired domain names.  With a little bit of luck, it seems like a great way to get a domain that already has links and is past the sandbox stage.  The problem is finding these domains and the process required to purchase one.

I’ve always regarded the process as confusing.  There were tons of software tools available, but none that I found terribly impressive.  Besides that, most of them required some type of monthly subscription.

The other day a friend of mine recommended I checkout a site called Fresh Drop.  This site has been a treasure trove of for finding expired domain names.  You can sort domains by Page Rank, Dmoz Listing, Yahoo Backlinks, age, and many other factors.  At the time I am writing this post, there are several PR5 domains for sale for only $5!

I’ve picked up two very good domain names related to one of my project sites.  I probably will not spend the time developing the new domains, but since they are related to one of my current sites, I’ll simply use a 301 redirect to pick up several hundred backlinks with related anchor text.

As I learn more and more about expired domains, I am sure this site will come in handy.  This site is definitely worthy of bookmarking.

  1. Freshdrop.com is good. But it has lot of “faked PR” sites. and I think $5 per domain is little misguiding because, you will have to $5+Domain registration fees to get the domain.

@Nish - Good point on the $5. Once you add the domain registration most of the domains will cost you around $15 with a one year registration.

I noticed Freshdrop had the “Fake PR” column. I wasn’t even aware you could fake page rank. How does that work?

  3. Brent Crouch:

@Nish - Thanks for the info on faking a PR. I didn’t even know this is possible. I may setup a test domain just to see it first hand. Very interesting.

  4. 5$ is fine and reg is fine with me…. but if the PR is valid i am ready to take…. But dude expired domain loses Pr as soon as it expires or in the next PR update… some of my sites lost its PR double qwik

  5. Brent Crouch:

@Sunil - Personally, I don’t believe it has as much to do with the domain expiring as the fact that there is a “page unavailable” when the Google bot drops by. I recently had a PR5 domain that went to PR0 when I redesigned the site. In the middle of the the redesign the Google Bot dropped by and the site was unavailable. It went to PR0 overnight. Once I had the site back online, it went back to PR5 at the next update.

I’ve heard several people say the same thing happens with expired domains. Once you put related content back on the site it will return to the previous PR once there is a PR update.

  6. Is it possible? Does the PR wind back to the PR we had while reg after putting the content.. I have added a blog but not much post..just 1… but it shows PR unavailable at the moment. will it retain its original Pr in the next update??
