Google Adwords Editor – Error 2739 Fix
If you are using Google Adwords to market your business, you should be using Adwords Editor. Adwords Editor is a free tool provided by Google to make managing your account or accounts easier. It can be a little difficult to use at first, but the time you spend learning the interface is certainly worth it. It has personally saved me many hours of time organizing my account. You can download Adwords Editor using this link. Download Adwords Editor Here
I just purchased a new laptop running Windows Vista. The laptop is great, but Vista......not so much.
ME: Copy File - Paste File
VISTA: Do you really want to copy that?
ME: Yes.
VISTA: Are you sure?
ME: Yes.
VISTA: Are you really sure?
ME: Yes.
VISTA: Is that you clicking yes?
ME: Yes! It is me. Just copy it please.
VISTA: Okay. Sorry, you can't copy to that folder.
ME: AHHHHHHHH
Well that is another story. My most recent problem was I couldn't load Google Adwords Editor. Every time I tried to run an install, I kept getting Error 2739. I have no idea what that means. The Adwords Help Knowledge Base was no help. I finally found a site written in German that had the solution. Reading the ROUGH translation was like pulling teeth. But I finally figured out a very simple solution that worked.
Here is the Pro Version of the Solution
1. You need to make sure you are logged into Vista as an administrator.
2. Open Command Prompt and change into the C:\Windows\System32 directory.
3. Type
- regsvr32 vbscript.dll
NOW PRESS Enter
I got an error after this command, but it still worked.
4. Type
- regsvr32 jscript.dll
NOW PRESS Enter
I got another error after this command, but it still worked.
5. Now try the install again. It should work this time.
Error 2739 For Dummies
1. You need to make sure you are logged into Vista as an administrator.
2. Simply open Command Prompt. (All Programs - Accessories - Command Prompt)
3. Type
- CD..
NOW PRESS Enter
4. Do the same thing again. Type
- CD..
NOW PRESS Enter
These two commands will put you in the root directory of Windows.
5. Type
- cd\windows\system32
NOW PRESS Enter
6. Type
- regsvr32 vbscript.dll
NOW PRESS Enter
I got an error after this command, but it still worked.
7. Type
- regsvr32 jscript.dll
NOW PRESS Enter
I got another error after this command, but it still worked.
8. Now try the install again. It should work this time.

Thanks, Brent. Your Pro Version solution worked for me.
NOTE: Yes, there is a space between both commands after the regsvr32.
Also, I did not have to be logged in as an administrator, I just allowed the program through the firewall.

By the way, in vista, if you right click the ‘command prompt’ menu item and select ‘run as administrator’ you won’t get any error messages when you regsvr32
Thanks Brent, went and used the pro version and it worked a treat.
That error message had been bigging me for ages. Now the AdWords Editor is working with Vista again.

Thanks for this!
Thanks Brent, saved me smashing my new screen!
Yeah! It’s also working with the newest Version, but why is Google not able to fix that bug?
Sweet, it worked!
Well done, Brent, it worked for me!
I just loaded the new version of Adwords Editor and didn’t have this problem. Maybe Google has finally fixed it.
Brilliant. At first when I saw how you got errors but were able to get it working anyhow, I was skeptical, yet after much research and seeing similar posts elsewhere, figured what the heck – Microsoft is bizarre so it’s not surprising that this is the fix. And yes, it worked like a champ for me!
Thanks so much for posting this.
Wow, thanks for support, it workds at last!
Thanks. I had to do it the dummy way, but man was that annoying. I couldn’t install a new version OR uninstall the old one until I found this hack!
it didn’t work for me. i believe my account is an admin account so I was logged in as administrator. however i found the following did work. open the start menu and type in “cmd.” then when that pops up in the results right click and choose “run as administrator”. When i did this and followed the rest of what you said. There were zero errors only diologes giving success. And finally adwords editor worked… yea!
Hi Andy,
Thanks for the update. That should help someone.
Hey, thank you so much from Ukraine:)
Exact Problem – Exact Solution if only every computer problem could be solved with such clarity as you provided. THANK YOU
Thanks for your feedback Charles. I’m glad it worked for you. I’m a little surprised to see Google hasn’t addressed it yet.
Thanks. Worked great!
I’ve tried this fix multiple times and I am still getting that error. Has anyone else experienced this? I don’t know what else to do.
Hey Logan,
Interesting it didn’t work for you. It seems most people had it work successfully. Did you get any errors? What part of the solution didn’t work?
Nice guide.
Note for Vista x64 Users, (this probably applies to the ones that did not get this fix to work)
Instead of entering Windows/System32, enter Windows/SysWOW64 and do exactly the same thing.
Cheers!
my hero! i thought it wasn’t working but i had simply left out the spaces in ‘regsvr32 vbscript.dll’ and ‘regsvr32 jscript.dll’ .. i’m not too computer savvy. thank u so much!
Great! Glad to hear it worked for you.
