Workaholic to Playaholic Overnight

I'm no stranger to hard work. There have been a few times that I've noticed the sun come up and realize, Opps, I never left work last night! For the most part, it isn't work if you enjoy it, and I have been lucky enough to enjoy building my own business for the last 6 years.

But things are changing for me. Summer is here and I have a five year old daughter that is old enough to enjoy swimming, golf, fishing, and now boating. My 70 - 80 hour work weeks have quickly changed to 40 - 50 hour weeks. Every chance we get, we are looking for something fun to do.

Last week, I purchased a Sea Ray Cabin Cruiser. All my friends tell me a boat is a giant hole to throw money in. There are also those that say the greatest two days of a boat owners life are the day you buy and the day you sell.

I hate to admit it, but I'm starting to understand the giant hole analogy. Between tires for the trailer, taxes and registration, life jackets, anchors, bimini tops, covers, gas, and slip rental fees, the boat I paid $5,000 for has nearly cost me another $5,000 in just the last week. This doesn't include the prop I damaged on our last trip out. Who would think in the middle of a 17 mile lake the water level could be a couple of feet?

Saturday was our first day at the lake on our new boat. All in all, it was a lot of fun. We spent most of the day viewing the sites from Johnny Cash's burned down house to Reba McEntire's former mansion, which is only a few hundred yards from the slip I leased. The last part of the day we spent swimming and riding a tube. Once we got off the boat, I spent the next few hours swaying back and forth. I guess I don't have my sea legs yet.

I'm looking forward to some fun trips at the lake. I'll post the pics of Johnny and Reba's homes the first chance I get.

Good Luck with your business,

Brent Crouch
