Most Effective Strategy For Getting Relevant High PR Backlinks For Free

I've primarily relied on getting backlinks from article marketing, paid directory submissions, and most recently Bookmarking Demon.  While these techniques have proven to be effective, they each have their flaws. Just today, I've tweaked a link building strategy that netted me a PR6 link, 4 - PR5 links, 12 - PR4 links, and more than 50 PR3, PR2, and PR1 links.  Getting all these links didn't cost me one dime and took less than 1 hour of my time.

Article Marketing

I'm not a writer.  I pay from $12 - $20 to have a good article written.  I use Article Post Robot to submit my articles to more than a hundred article directories, but the technique doesn't have the ...ump that it once did.  Don't get me wrong, it's still worth doing.  But even with Article Post Robot it takes time and if you use a writer like me, it costs money.  Also, the article you submit creates a new page at the article directory.  It can take a while for the new page to be indexed and more times than not it will have any PR even when it does.

Paid Directory Submissions

Paid directory submissions are effective, but they can be expensive.  It costs $300 a year to submit to the Yahoo Directory.  In addition to the cost, another drawback is the inability to always choose a category of your choosing.  You might pick a category with a handful of outgoing links and a high PR, but some editor may decide you fit better into a category that has a massive number of links with low or even no PR.  Unfortunately, this isn't something you can negotiate before paying for your listing.  In my experience, it's a game of chance.

Bookmarking Demon
I'm fully convinced that Bookmarking Demon gave my project site the bump it needed to move from rank #5 to #1.  It's also proven to be a great way to get a new site indexed.  Anytime I run it on a new site, it is usually indexed within 24 hours.

The main problem with BD is it takes time to create new bookmarking accounts and those new accounts have zero PR that flow into your site.  While I believe BD is a good addition to any link building campaign, by itself  it isn't very effective.

My Latest Link Building Method That Will Shake The Foundations Of My SEO Project Sites

My latest link building method involves using blogs and forums. Using blogs and forums as a source of links isn't some secret SEO strategy.  I've mentioned it on my blog before.  It's the method of finding and filtering those links that have made my new technique so effective.

In the past, I published a list of blogs and forums that provided follow links.  The idea was to visit these blogs and forums for the purpose of adding to the discussion in exchange for a backlink.  The problem was this strategy did not target high PR pages and the blog and forum topics weren't always relevant to the links I was trying to get.

To make this strategy work, you need a couple of free tools.  The first is Firefox.  You can download Firefox at this link.  You also need to download and install a free Firefox addon called SEO Quake.  This will help us filter out low PR pages and concentrate on high PR pages that will yield the most return.

There are certain phrases that are present across most blogs and forums.  We can search for these common phrases surrounded by quotes to make Google return a list of results that includes mostly blogs and forums.  When we add our targeted keyword or phrase outside of the quote, Google will return a list of blogs and forums related to our keyword phrase.

Here is a list of search queries that will return relevant blogs.  Be sure to replace keyword with your targeted keyword or phrase.

1.) keyword "remember my personal information"

2.) keyword "notify me of follow-up comments"

3.) keyword "post a comment"

4.) keyword "login or register to post comments"

Here is a list of search queries that will return relevant forums.  I had better luck finding blogs, but you can experiment with the forum parameters should you need some more links.  Be sure to replace keyword with your targeted keyword or phrase.

1.) inurl:forum keyword
2.) intitle:forum keyword

Watch my video to see my technique in operation.  I'm applying it to my Tax Lien Properties website.  Currently, I rank #1 for my main keyword phrase of tax lien properties.  That phrase gets around 2,000 visitors a month.  If you read my last post, you know statistically that means I'll get 42.3% of those search users to click my listing yielding over 8oo visitors.

I would like to see this site rank for a second phrase of government tax sales.  That phrase gets 4,400 searches a month.  I currently rank #9 for that phrase which means I only get 2.83% of search users to visit my site.  If I could get my site to rank #1 for that phrase, I could increase my visitor count by a couple thousand visitors a month.  More visitors means more potential revenue.

Article Marketing is very necessary for SEO.

  2. Brent Crouch Says:

I don’t think it is necessary even though it does work. You aren’t going to rank a site for ultra competitive terms using article marketing exclusively. Article Marketing should be only one tool in your SEO tool box.

Very well said. More than these effective tips, one should really invest time and effort in building backlinks. After all the hard work, expect to see your website soar due to overwhelming quality backlinks 🙂

Great post Brent. I found your site a few days ago and have been looking around. Lots of useful info. I downloaded the SEO Quake and found tons of PR5 sites to comment on for one of my niches. Thanks a lot for sharing. Brian

I just checked out your site and see you now rank #1 on Google. Nice job! I am now a believer. I like your examples you use. It is nice to see someone confident enough to use their own sites to help others. Thanks again for sharing the info, Brian

  6. Brent Crouch Says:

@Brian – No problem Brian. I am still working on ranking for Government Tax Sales. So far, my site fell from #9 to #15 for that term. It’s strange how that happens. I may have added too many links too fast. Either way, it may take a few more weeks to balance out. Before I ranked #1 for “tax lien properties”, my site was all over the place. Only time will tell.

Awesome strategy. QUESTION: I noticed in the video you said that Mozilla will indicate the no follow’s. Though, I’ve used Firefox for years now and other than an extension, don’t know of a way to do this. When researching extensions for nofollow, I’ve found all kinds of conflicting responses and reviews of the programs that have left me hesitant to choose any particular extension.
Upon trying a couple, I could not get them to consistently indicate whether there is a nofollow or not.

You obviously have gone through this yourself. Of all the options available, what extension would you recommend and why. I’ll check back for you reply, though it would be great if you could e-mail me with it as well.

    Thanks,

    Michael

  17. Sydney SEO Says:

Yeap I can vouch for Bookmarking Demon as well. I’ve had it for about 6 months and it’s worked wonders for me.

  18. Brent Crouch Says:

Agreed. Good content only draws in more links.

  19. Link Building Says:

BMD is a good tool if someone goes thru extra length spending a great deal of time compiling his/her own list. Otherwise the tool will submit to no good Pligg and Scuttle sites that dont do any good

  20. Mark Ewans Says:

Great post! I’m just starting out in community management/marketing media and trying to learn how to do it well – resources like this article are incredibly helpful

  21. registry cleaner reviews Says:

Brent I know its a 2009 post – I just went to your blog and found this- I own APR myself but havent used it for a very long time – imo tools like Articlebot are much more efficient nowadays but the problem lays within the articledirectories! I own 2 directories myself and the amount of spam you are getting is ridiculous!
So more and more owners dont bother to go through all the articles anymore because it takes too much time…which in return means for the submitting webmasters their articles are more likely not posted anymore – IMO using a service like DYA etc is the way to go! Though I cant really recommend DYA in particular I have yet to find my the “perfect ” article submit service

, I’ve used Firefox for years now and other than an extension, don’t know of a way to do this. When researching extensions for nofollow

  23. Alessio Says:

Just a question: if I decide to buy some backlinks packs from internet, like from amazon or ebay, what happens? I can see some strange vendors like abcmarketing, activeSEO, aladygma-marketing, what are they?

  24. Brent Crouch Says:

I would not recommend buying links.

  25. Brent Crouch Says:

    Correct. You need an extension.

  26. dmoz directory submission Says:

High PR backlinks refer to linking sites with a high pr ranking back to your site. This is important because of the significance that Google search and indexing algorithms places on having backlinks pointing to your web site. The higher the overall page rank of the web site linking back to your web site the more weight that you’re site is given.

  27. Square Peg Web Says:

Lot of options are there for putting high PR back links. The first option is do follow pr blog posting then forum posting. Finally Article submission and paid directory submission.

  28. website seo analysis Says:

Building links is a crucial process in climbing your website up the rankings. Links are not created equal – one way back links, for example, will be far more powerful than reciprocal links provided between you and an affiliated website.

  29. website design agency Says:

Article marketing, which is also called bum marketing in the online world, is a great way to drive traffic to your site and get backlinks, which are very important as well. Some people think that simply throwing up a random article onto an article directory will do them good, but there are specific things that you need to do with your articles in order to make them profitable.

By profession I am seo worker and always try to search informative articles on the topic of link building. Good to read your post. Thanks and regards
