SEO Project #1 – Getting a Free Link from a PR9 Domain – Update #5

Previous Post For This Project

This post lists one of the reasons I decided not to disclose the domain on my project site. You could describe this method as gray hat at best.

When looking at some of the other sites competing for my keywords and ranking very well I might add, I noticed one site had built several free blogs on wordpress.com. It was clear they were for the sole purpose of getting a few backlinks.

WordPress.com is a pr9. Of course, when you sign up for a free WordPress hosted blog, you get a subdomain of wordpress.com that shows a pr of 0. I'm not sure if having a new subdomain with no backlinks on a high pr domain has any advantages or not, but it seems to be working for one of my competitors.

So I figured it was worth a try and setup a 10 page blog on wordpress.com that features niche specific articles from EzineArticles.com. I've linked to my project site from each of these pages using my targeted keywords as anchor text.

***SUCCESS***

MSN has cached the changes I made in SEO Project #1 Update #2 . As a result, I am ranking on the first page for several of my keywords including taking the #1 position for my primary keyword. 🙂

Google has also cached the changes and has me ranking for several long tail keywords. I am also showing up on page 4 for my primary keyword. After 5 days of focused efforts, it is clear things are heading in the right direction.
