Earlier this year, I picked up a copy of Quick Cash Domaining and Domains Into Dollars from Phil Craig. My plans to spend the day at the lake were unsuccessful due to the weather and a broken shifter cable. So, today was a great day to dive into the world of domain investing.
I wasn't surprised at the quality of the material. I've purchased from Phil before and I've never been disappointed. Both of these courses contained detailed written materials as well as video tutorials.
I was pretty excited about the potential of starting adding domain investing to my internet business strategy. Once I was about halfway through the first course, I was ready to get started. I created a list of 100 domain names and just before I spent the $800 to register them, I realized a very important fact that Phil failed to mention. ICANN has recently changed the rules involving domain names making this business more difficult than ever to tap into. Let me explain.

I Beat The I.R.S.
Targeted backlinks from blogs are very effective. I've been trying to rank one of my sites for the term "government tax sales". The term is semi-competitive and gets over 6,000 searches a month. At the top of the pack on page one is the IRS website.
When I started targeting the term, I was on page 3. I started getting targeted backlinks from blogs with PR using the method I describe in this video. I spent maybe 15 - 20 minutes every 2 - 3 weeks.

Adding New Content
I just spent three hours adding additional content to my site and organizing everything into categories. I'm about to get the site structure just like I want it. This is the same content I purchased a few weeks ago, so there are no new costs associated with the content this week.
Posting To Article Directories
I also spent some time posting a couple of articles to article directories. This is a great way to build backlinks and get referral traffic direct from the article directories you are posting to. There are a couple of things to keep in mind when posting to article sites.

Did I ever mention I gave an interview that was picked up in a real book? Probably not! This was at the top of my "to do list" a year ago and I never got around to posting about it.
Last year, I was asked to give an interview about my experiences in starting and operating an internet based business. I didn't think much of it at the time. The person requesting the interview mentioned that it would be published in a book, but I assumed this meant an ebook and not a real book.

I spent the last 2 1/2 hours working on my SEO project site. My focus today was building backlinks. Here are the methods I used to start building backlinks to my site.
Paid Directories
I've had mixed results with paid directory links. I once paid $299 for a link from the Yahoo Directory only to find my search rank take a beating. You can view the results of my Yahoo Directory Test here.
I've also had some good experience with paid directory submissions. Here are the results of the last paid directory links I purchased.
